Do ‘Knot’ Get Tied Up & Learn How To Grow Long, Luscious Locks

Some time ago you fell into the short hair fad and chopped off your mane, thinking a little ‘pixie’ never hurt nobody. And while you may have rocked the heck out of  that style, (unlike Penny from The Big Bang Theory) you just realized you oh-so regret it. Hey, it’s just hair, it will grow back, right? Of course it will. Problem is, you want it to grow now. You are tired of waiting for your strands to be long enough to braid, tie up in a bun and wear down in that carefree feminine way. Luckily, you can help your hair grow faster with just a few adjustments in your haircare routine. Trim your hair I know, I know, cutting your hair is the last thing you want to do when you are growing it back, but hear me out here. As your hair grows, the ends get damaged, no matter how careful you are. It’s a fact of life. And damaged ends are fragile and end up breaking off, which will, you guessed it, make your hair shorter. So trim the ends every month and a half or so to avoid breakage. As a bonus, your hair will actually look healthier as it grows! Take care of your scalp Do the smart thing and go straight for the source. If your hair gets a bad start, it will not grow as long or as healthy as it could. What’s worse, dead skin cells, oil and dirt accumulate on your scalp and actually make it harder for your hair to grow, which will considerably slow the process down. Use a gentle shampoo that’s right for your skin type and gently massage your scalp every time you are in the shower, this will remove all the impurities and promote blood circulation, improving hair growth. Change up your shower routine Ultra hot water might be nice and relaxing, but it can actually dry out your hair. Dry hair is brittle and prone to breakage, so you want to avoid that. Wash your hair with warm or even cool water to keep your strands hydrated and healthy. Once you are out of the shower, be careful when you dry your hair. Your wet locks are fragile, so you don’t want to wrap them up in a towel as soon as you are out of the shower. Twisting wet hair in a tower will break strands and increase hair loss. Instead, pat your hair dry, gently, either with a towel or an old, clean, cotton shirt. Style with care If you absolutely must style your hair with heat, find a way to...

Essential Make-Up Trends For Spring 2015

Spring is already here and it’s time to renew your style from head to toe. You are probably reorganizing your closet right now, but this is also a great time to shake up your make-up case a little bit. Gone are the days of smokey eyes and other safe winter looks that you know damn well are your safe ‘go-to’ party looks. Spring calls for bold, vibrant make-up, babe! So here are some of the make-up trends for this season you can’t go without.  Fierce Blue Eyeliner  Ditch your regular old black eyeliner. It has served you well, but Spring 2015 requires a bolder color. Specifically, blue. It doesn’t matter the shade you choose, this season there is one perfect blue liner for every look. When you go to for your typical winged eyeliner, trade black for a rich, deep blue and create a sharp cat-eye effect. This will get you a dramatic and vibrant look. If you want something a little less out there, find a soft baby blue liner and apply it to your inner eyelid. This will make your eyes pop and look bigger. To avoid over-saturating your look, pair up your blue liner with a neutral, low-key color for your lips, to avoid taking attention away from your eyes.  Bold Oxblood Lipstick  Instead of dressing up your eyes, you want your mouth to steal the spotlight, Spring 2015 is the time to try out deep red lips and experience something we haven’t seen in other collections. This season, dark matte lipstick is your go-to rouge. Pick deep, purplish reds, like oxblood when buying a new lipstick this spring. And eye-catching red lipstick is the perfect way to tie up your look and look instantly dressed up in one simple step. The only thing you should be aware of is balance. Keep your eye make-up minimal and choose a shade of red that compliments your skin, to avoid looking overdone.  Strong, Thick Brows  Oh, yes. Strong eyebrows are still “in” this season. You can thank Cara Delevigne for that. We all know that the shape of your eyebrows can pretty much completely change your face, and it turns out that “thin, overly plucked Barbie brows” are not our only choice. Big, bushy, arched brows add strength to your look and the good news is you don’t need to be genetically blessed to achieve the fierce Delevigne brow. Just get some pencils, brushes and gels, and start filling in. Thick, perfectly shaded eyebrows are almost a complete look on their own, since they frame your face and draw attention to your eyes. This means that you should...

Should You Stop Using Shampoo? (Everyone Seems To Think So)

Should You Stop Using Shampoo? (Everyone Seems To Think So)

Getting your hair care routine right is a lot harder than it should be. Hell, I even prefer spending 11 hours at the hair salon, getting my weave sewn in or my extensions glued in. It’s too dry, too oily, too frizzy, too flat, too unruly. We all have that one thing we can’t seem to get right. And I’m sure you’ve tried every brand of shampoo under the sun. But maybe you should try something different altogether. How about stop using shampoo entirely? “Ew”, you might say. And I understand, it sounds icky at first, kind of like a horrible blind date who just showed up in his mom’s car while she’s parking the car. But washing our hair every day is a relatively new thing, so maybe letting go of shampoo is not entirely without merit. I understand this might not be the right thing for everyone, but there are enough success stories out there to give it a chance.  The first thing you need to consider is that everyone is different. And this means everyone’s scalp is different too. Some people produce more sebum than others, which means some people need to shampoo their hair more often. On the other hand, dryer scalps might benefit from washing less often, so the natural oils can work their way down the hair. Similarly, think, wavy and curly hair will probably feel better if it’s washed less often, while thin, straight hair might need more frequent shampooing. If you want to give it a go, you can start by shampooing less often and gradually wane off shampoo entirely, instead of quitting cold-turkey.  But just because you are not using shampoo, it doesn’t mean you should stop washing your hair. Rinsing with warm water is probably the best alternative and you can use apple cider vinegar, baking soda or other natural alternatives once in a while, to keep your hair looking fresh. Just use a mixture of 1/4 cup of vinegar diluted in one cup of water to get rid of residue build-up in your hair. The smell will go away, but the shiny smoothness will stay. If you want to, you can still condition your hair. As long as you don’t put conditioner anywhere near your roots, you can still apply it to the middle and tips, to keep your hair looking smooth and shiny. Another alternative is to use dry shampoos or baby powder to stretch the time between washes a little longer. Dry shampoos absorb the oil in your scalp, and are great to help you look fresh when you need to get out of the door...

Beauty Hacks To Make Styling As Easy As 1, 2, Chic!

Lady Gaga’s worldwide ‘feel-good-about-yourself’ anthem -I was born this way- was one of the biggest hits of all times. Embracing how you were born seems to be were our generation is gearing towards and we cannot help but clap and sort of get teary-eyed. But just because you love yourself and know you’re definitely ALL THAT, does not mean you might not need some extra beauty hacks to make applying makeup and styling your locks easier! Everyone does. So here’s the best tips we’ve been able to get from world renown makeup artists and stylists!  Lady in White. Well, not on your clothing, but on your face. Countouring with white instead of just a lighter shade than your skin tone is the best bit of advice we got from a set of MAC’s makeup gurus who explained this to be an old trick that drag queens used to get that ‘well defined airbushed’ look. Apply around the eyes, and cheekbones. A tiny bit on the top of your lips and the inner corner of your eyes.   Be a Tease! At least when it comes to hair extensions. Before you put on those clip-in hair extensions, make sure to either braid a small tiny braid that starts at the root, or simply tease the area where you will attach your clips. Then cover it up with the hair on top and voila!     Nailing the ‘cat-eyed’ or ‘winged’ eyeliner look is not easy. But Charlotte Tilbury, an amazing makeup artist you must have seen on Youtube, suggests we draw 3 tiny dots to lead our pulse, and basically play the old game ‘connect the dots’ until we’ve drawn a perfect cat eyed winged look. It also takes practice.       Avoid your mascaras to dry up. With this amazing trick I learned from Gossmakeupartist, (you can also find this makeup genius on Youtube.) Don’t remove the cap and put it back on two to three times to take more product with your mascara brush! You’re only getting air into the tube, which dries it up before it should. The brush will already come out with product.   Avoid damp, flat, nasty hair. If you’re naturally oily, then this trick is perfect for you. When excess oil is found at the root, your hair will fall flat on your head making you distressed and feel like you might need to wash it to ‘revamp’ the way it looks. But if you’re running late, you should try any dry-shampoo. Although Aveda’s our favorite. Apply dry-shampoo at the roots and your hair will look like it has just been washed....

7 Easy Ways To Get Rid Of Female Facial Hair

We have all had this happen to us. We put on our makeup and head on out. While we are shopping other shoppers are giving us looks. Some give us the ‘you have froth’ sign language signal except we are not drinking Starbucks. Then we realize. OMG! We have facial hair. A MUSTACHE! What is so wrong with that? We are woman and we are not auditioning to become the bearded lady! Oh! I hear it pays well…anyway. Here are some sure easy ways to get rid of facial hair without having to scream, “OH PLUCK!” 1. Lemon Sugar Mask – Mix 10 tbsp. of water, 2 tbsp. of sugar, and 2 tsp of fresh lemon juice. Rub it on your face against the grain. The lemon will help bleach your facial hair. Do this for a couple of weeks and you will see less facial hair. 2. Oily Shave – Use jojoba oil or coconut oil on the facial hair you are going to shave. The oil makes the area smoother to shave and it will be less likely to irritate. 3. Turmeric Mask – Mix 2 teaspoons of turmeric with enough milk to form a paste. Soak the turmeric in the milk. Apply to area with facial hair and let sit for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water. You will have smooth skin and no facial hair. If you still have facial hair then you mixed the paste wrong. 4. Bleach ‘Em – by bleaching your facial hair it is easily blended to your skin tone. I recommend purchasing a kit from the store. Remember to be careful to not bleach your lips while you are trying to get rid of the mustache. 5. Egg-tastic Hair Removal – Mix the egg white of one egg with one tablespoon of sugar and half a tablespoon of corn flour. Beat it until a smooth paste forms. Now put it on your face and make sure to apply it liberally in the facial hair areas you want gone. Once it dries, anywhere between 20-30 minutes, peel it off with a little tug and you will see the facial hairs come right up with the dried mask. 6. Eat It Away – Start adding soy, soy milk, tofu, flaxseeds, fennel herb, alfalfa, and licorice. Why? They contain phytoestrogen which is a plant hormone similar to estrogen. These foods will help in not growing unwanted facial hair. It is like the opposite of testosterone. 7. Banana Oatmeal Scrub – Mix one ripe banana with a teaspoon of oatmeal. Now rub in a circular motion as you apply it to your face. The banana...
