It’s not easy looking fabulous. Beauty routines are important and they make you feel as good as you look. But instead of spending insane amounts of money on new products every month, why don’t you try these DIY alternatives? These are natural ways to step up your routine that will make you feel crafty and are as good for your skin as they are for your wallet.
Remove make-up with just three ingredients
Make-up remover can be too harsh and end up drying or damaging your skin, especially around your eyes. You can actually make a very effective and gentle eye make-up remover with only three ingredients that will cost you almost no money. Mix half a tablespoon of No Tears Baby Shampoo with one quarter teaspoon of coconut oil (use olive oil if you are allergic). Pour into a small container with a lid and fill the rest with water. That is all. The oil and water will separate, so you need to shake the container before using it every time. Believe it or not, this remover will wipe even the most stubborn goop right of your eyes. And it smells fantastic.
Apple and oats face scrub
Apple is famous for its high content of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, which means it will renew your skin better than any store-bought anti-aging cream. That’s why it’s perfect for this face (and body!) scrub. Mix one cup of pureed apple (or organic, unsweetened applesauce) with one teaspoon of sweet almond oil and ¾ cup of plain rolled oats. The oats will be in charge of exfoliating of this scrub, you can substitute them for sugar or your favorite exfoliant. Finally, the almond oil will make your skin feel softer and keep it moisturized. To use, simply rub on your wet face with a circular motion, leave for 15 minutes and rinse with enough water to get rid of all the product. This scrub is also great to use on your legs before shaving, so you get a closer shave without unsightly red bumps. The mix can keep in your fridge for up to a week, so don’t worry if you don’t use it all up in one sitting.
All-natural berry lip stain
If you want to give your lips a touch of deep, red color, but you are not sure about the chemicals and artificial ingredients in store-bought products, you can make your own. And it doesn’t get more natural than this. Simply mash three blackberries and one raspberry together in a small bowl. Then, squeeze three pomegranate seeds to get the juice into the bowl and mix well. Finally, add half a teaspoon of olive oil (you can use any edible oil). Stir everything with a spoon and then drain the liquid into a small glass container with a lid. To apply, simply use your fingers or a q-tip. The mix will only last a few days on the fridge, which is why you should only make small quantities. The upside is that you can experiment with different berry ratios and other fruits to get different colors.
